MORE THAN 125 YEARS
OF HISTORY
1897
The first plot of land outside Ibiza’s old town goes up for auction with a single condition: to build a publicly accessible theater. Commander Pereyra, Abel Matutes, and Josep Tarrés decide to make it happen.


1899
On April 6, Teatro Pereyra opens to great anticipation as the island’s very first theater.

1904
The first cinematograph arrives, giving Ibizan society access to a cinema for the very first time.


1912
The Theater hosts the Agricultural Congress, an event that shakes the island due to the socioeconomic significance of being chosen as its venue.
1987
The main theater hall ceases its activities, while Café Pereyra remains open until 2018.


2006
On August 1st, the Theater is declared a Cultural Heritage Site (Category 1), a recognition that protects its legacy for its historical and cultural value.
2010
Renovation works begin.


2011
Archaeological remains are discovered beneath the Theater’s floor, belonging to a Roman settlement.
2024
On May 3rd, Teatro Pereyra is reborn.
